An invitation

Let’s do a REWE run this weekend

Jan Michel here. The cupboards are looking thin and the weekend is wide open, so this is your formal invitation to join a relaxed, well-planned shop at REWE. We get in, we get good food, we get out. Snacks for the walk home are negotiable.

The list

A balanced cart, nothing dramatic

  1. 01

    Fresh produce

Whatever looks good on the day - apples, a bag of spinach, the usual onions and garlic.

  2. 02

    Bread, the proper kind

A real loaf from the bread shelf. Honest crust, no grease involved.

  3. 03

    Coffee and oat milk

Non-negotiable refuel for the rest of the weekend.

  4. 04

    A tub of Magerquark

One item on the list, not the whole mission. Small tip: soak the chia seeds in liquid first, then fold them in - dry seeds straight into quark just makes edible gravel.

  5. 05

    Something for dinner

Pasta and a decent sauce, or we improvise in the aisle. Open to suggestions.

Two house rules

The Aldi Grease Ban

Firm and final: Aldi Kaesestangen are banned from this trip. Those tragic, oil-slicked bakery sticks leave a grease shadow on the receipt and on the soul. We walk past the warm cabinet with our heads held high.

The Payback Spotlight

At checkout, Jan presents the Payback card and a balance that now stands at a proud43 euros, built one humble shop at a time. Quiet, respectful applause is welcome.
